Overview

As Managing Director, Phil is responsible for the corporate and strategic aspects of SPC, the physical preparation of clients from both athletic and non-athletic populations and tutoring/assessing on all accredited courses. Additionally, he coordinates the quality assurance/internal verification process, delivers SPC's strength and conditioning workshop series, and mentors students on the BASES Supervised Experience (SE) scheme.

He is a BASES Chartered Sport and Exercise Scientist (CSci), BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist (scientific support) and UKSCA Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCC) with 25 years experience delivering sport and exercise science support services to professional, elite and novice athletes/clients in the UK and abroad.  He's also a published author, including co-author of a leading internationally sold textbook on sport and exercise science (Sewell, Watkins and Griffin) published by Routledge (3rd edition to be published in 2017). 

Phil has 20 years experience teaching and leading on physical education, sport and exercise science-related programmes across all levels of the UK education system.  These experiences have influenced his approach to leadership, teaching, consultancy and research, giving him a wealth of experience.  This includes establishing and running new degree programmes, overhauling existing programmes to enhancing and developing successful teams.  His teaching philosophy is based around creating interactive environments where students are actively involved and so can enjoy learning. As a sportsman Phil has 21 years experience as a competitive powerlifter, 15 of those as an international, representing both Wales and Great Britain, winning various Welsh, British, European, Commonwealth and World titles.
